My Commute To Work
Last week marked the end of my tenancy at Crown Street, and freedom from the horror that is Call Lane at 3am every weekend. Chris, Norm and myself decided to stick together and get a three-bedroomed place just across the river, near the Asda head office, because none of us were really on the ball enough to break away from the others (nor rich enough, to be honest. In my case, anyway.)
Back in the day (of Crown Street) it took about 10 mins to get to work, depending on traffic. Now, in the new place, it takes just over four minutes to get from door to door.
Walking.
So, I walk down the canal side, past the back of Asda House. On this side of the building lies the smoker’s area: an area that looked like it was once the picnic/outside eating area for the staff, that is fenced off to look like a school yard. With picnic tables (and a sheltered area that frankly I don’t believe conforms to the legislation regarding covered smoking areas). Every time I walk past, there’s at least seven or eight people in this area, reducing their life expectancies by a few minutes.
Today, as I was walking past (in what I can only term as the worst caffeine crash in the history of man) I felt the urge to find a stick, put on my crazy-weird-boy face and stand at the fence attempting to poke the smokers whilst laughing in the way a child does for the canned laughter for some really bad children’s TV show. Like Dick and Dom. (Like I know anything about children’s TV…) similar to the way that a child in the ’80s, ignoring the warning signage, poked animals at a zoo before they attempted to break down out of the cage to hunt down and kill their tormentor.
That sounds like it would be fun, doesn’t it?
